Extensive lobbying by AFT Connecticut has led to the unanimous passage of legislation requiring hospitals to publicly report hospital-acquired infections. Connecticut becomes only the ninth state to require such reporting.

AFT Healthcare Report Shows More than Half of RNs, X-ray Techs Suffer from Lifting Injuries
AFT Healthcare released March 23 a survey that shows that more than half of registered nurses and X-ray techs have suffered from injuries related to patient lifting, chronic pain or both. The report found that nearly half the RNs and one-third of the techs were considering leaving the healthcare industry because of chronic pain due to patient lifting and handling.

AFT Healthcare is warning healthcare workers that the NLRB may rule soon that RNs who work as charge nurses are no longer covered by the protections of the National Labor Relations Act.
