The AFT develops innovative organizing and professional development strategies with partners from every region of the globe. It offers a wide range of support to partners, from short-term humanitarian assistance to training opportunities to facilitate long-term union development.
Union-to-Union Programs
The AFT has a proud history of involvement in the worldwide trade union movement. It has lent support and solidarity to unions all over the globe, from those fighting apartheid in South Africa to those struggling against Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile to those emerging from the ruins of the former Soviet Union. Today, the AFT maintains active relationships with teacher unions in Afghanistan, Burma, Colombia, Georgia, Iraq, Kenya, Lebanon, Macedonia, Mongolia, Palestine, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

Global Affiliates and Partners
The AFT is proud to partner with many other influential institutions in its international work. Notably, it is affiliated with Education International (EI) and Public Services International (PSI). It also works closely on union projects with the American Center for International Labor Solidarity of the AFL-CIO.
