VP Ann TwomeyAFT Vice President
Ann Twomey, R.N. is president of Health Professionals and Allied Employees, AFT, AFL-CIO.  Ms. Twomey oversees and develops collective bargaining and representative issues, educational, professional and policy issues for RNs, LPNs, pharmacists, social workers, medical technologists, physical therapists and other health care professionals and ancillary employees in variety of health care settings. She also is in charge of running statewide organizing programs.

Ms. Twomey is extremely active in her community and involved in many organizations.  Her professional involvement includes: vice-chair, AFT Healthcare; vice president, New Jersey State AFL-CIO; vice president, Bergen Country Central Trades and Labor Council, AFL-CIO; Health and Safety Program, Rutgers University; co-chair, Patients First Coalition; co-chair, American Federation of Teachers, New Jersey; United Way of Bergen Country; New Jersey Citizen Action, board member.

Ms. Twomey has gained significant recognition for her hard work and has been awarded for her efforts.  Her awards include: Pioneer Woman of the 90’s, Bergen County Executive; Labor Leader of the Year, Rutgers University Labor Education Department; New Jersey Governor’s Award for Labor Excellence; Women’s Fund of New Jersey; Consumers for Civil Justice.

Previously, Ms. Twomey was a registered nurse on the medical-surgical unit specializing in oncology and cardiac telemetry.  She served as charge nurse, preceptor of newly hired nurses and helped create patient teaching programs.  From 1971-1991, Ms. Twomey acted as staff nurse at Coronary Care Unity where she worked in intensive care specializing in cardiac care.  Here, she served as charge nurse, preceptor and participated in the creation and delivery of patient and family teaching programs.

Ms. Twomey attended Fairleigh Dickenson University’s Medical Technical/Nursing program and Englewood Hospital School of Nursing.
