AFT Vice President
Laura K. Rico is president of the ABC (Artesia, Bloomfield and Carmenita) Federation of Teachers in California. The local represents members in the ABC Unified School District located in the southeast section of Los Angeles County.
Rico has been an AFT vice president since 2002 and is a member of the AFT Teachers program and policy council. In 2005, Rico was elected to the AFL-CIO executive council.

For more than 31 years, Rico was a child development teacher at the Artesia High School Children's Center before becoming full-time president of the ABCFT.

Rico also serves as the state senior vice president for the California Federation of Teachers. Under her leadership, a successful labor-management collaborative is in place where members, students and the school community have benefited from this effort.
