AFT Vice President
Richard Iannuzzi is president of the New York State United teachers as well as a vice president of the American Federation of Teachers, New York State AFL-CIO and the Italian American Labor Council. He also serves as a delegate to the Long Island Federation of Labor and the National AFL-CIO.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in political science in 1970 from Brooklyn College, City University of New York. In 1975, he received a Masters of Science degree (Political and Social Foundations of Education) from Hofstra University. He obtained a certificate in Labor Studies from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1984.
Iannuzzi is a Silver Life Member of the NAACP and a member of the Jewish Labor Committee.
Born in Brooklyn in 1947, he taught elementary school in the Central Islip Public Schools for 34 years. He and his wife, Joanne, have three children, Richard, Deborah and Amy, and two grandchildren.
