Andy Ford, president of the Florida Education Association, was elected AFT vice president in 2003. An elementary teacher from Jacksonville, Fla., Ford was elected president of Duval Teachers United in 1987. He was previously vice president of FEA/United and served on the team that oversaw the merger between FTP-NEA and FEA/United in 2000.

During his tenure as president, Ford has focused on internal organizing and rebuilding the commitment to a grass-roots movement by building healthier locals. Under his leadership, the union has focused on ensuring that members have access to high-quality professional development and making every public school as good as the best public school.
