Christine Trujillo

Christine Trujillo is president of AFT New Mexico and president of the New Mexico Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, and has served in both roles for the last 10 years. She is currently on leave of absence from her 21-year career in the Albuquerque public schools where she was a bilingual teacher and regular education teacher with a special education inclusion program.

Trujillo has been a community activist for many years and has served on several boards and commissions both as an elected officer and as legislative or gubernatorial appointee. She is the chief lobbyist for AFT New Mexico and was instrumental in helping craft the 2001 collective bargaining law that currently governs New Mexico public employees.

Trujillo recently completed training with the National Media Center's Progressive Women's Voices program in New York City and is SheSource expert on labor, education and Hispanic issues. In addition, she serves on a number of labor committees and councils and is an appointed member at large of the National Democratic Committee.

She is also a watercolor artist and creates retablos and other folk art in her limited free time.
