AFT Vice President
Stephen Rooney, RN is president of the National Federation of Nurses headquartered in Washington, D.C. NFN is the most recent affiliate of AFT. He is the second president of the organization, succeeding NFN’s founding president, Barbara Crane, in 2013. Rooney has served as President of the Oregon Nurses Association since 2010. In 2013, he was appointed to be an AFT vice president.
Prior to becoming ONA President, Rooney was a member of the board of directors for six years, serving as Vice President and member of the Executive Committee. He has been an ONA member since 1985 and has served as a local negotiation team member, bargaining unit chair, Economic and General Welfare Cabinet Chair, American Nurses Association Institute for Collective Bargaining officer, and member of the ANA Advocacy Institute. Rooney is also a member of the board of directors for the Breitenbush Valley Fire Department.
Rooney remains an intensive care nurse at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, OR, where he has worked since 1985.
