Dennis Kelly has been president of the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) since 2003.
Kelly began his career as an English teacher in 1969, and has been active in the UESF since 1971, serving in numerous leadership positions over the years. He also is a longtime member of the AFT Teachers program and policy council, and served for a decade as the chair of the Progressive Caucus of the AFT.
Kelly is a vice president of the California Federation of Teachers and a member of the executive committee of the San Francisco Labor Council. He has been a delegate to the council for nearly four decades.
He was honored as the Outstanding Secondary School Teacher by the College of Education at San Francisco State University. In 2010, St. Mary’s College gave him the John F. Henning Institute Award, which honors the memory of that great leader of California labor and working people.
Kelly earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary's College of California and his teaching credentials from San Francisco State University.
Kelly is proud that his office showcases a collection of baseballs autographed by every AFT president since 1974.
