Public Employees Internships
RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern will be assigned to work closely with AFT Public Employees staff to coordinate the annual compensation survey. She/he will help create the salary survey and follow up with representatives from departments of administration in the states. She/he may collect job specifications for any new positions targeted for the salary survey and assist in analyzing salary trends across the country. This provides a unique opportunity to work as a lead researcher on a large scale project – the only one of its kind in the United States. The AFT surveys all 50 states on the compensation of 45 job titles. The research is published each Labor Day. This annual survey is in its 15th year.
KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY: Ideal candidates must have computer literacy in Microsoft, especially Excel and research skills. Additionally, candidates must have an interest in and understanding of the labor movement and public service.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS GAINED: The intern will gain experience in researching and analyzing salary data. Most importantly, the intern will gain knowledge about the labor movement and its role in improving the lives of professional public employees and improving the institutions where members work.
HOURS PER WEEK: 35 hours per week (negotiable)
PAY: $10 an hour for undergrads
