Interns in the Human Rights and Community Relations department of the AFT work with Department staff to help create and revise departmental publications and support the logistics for meetings, conferences, and other civil and human rights projects. Interns will have an opportunity to perform research work and interact with other civil rights groups through phone, Internet and meetings. Job tasks include:

Researching, writing, revising department documents and Web site materials on various topics (domestic partner benefits, the sexual harassment manual, kits marking special months, etc.);

Responding to member requests for information;

Attending meetings of other civil, human and women's rights groups and unions;

Researching civil and human rights issues; and

Participating in various community/labor projects.
Interns must be skilled in using the Internet. A basic understanding of Microsoft Office also is valuable. Work hours and pay vary by availability. A minimum of 20 hours per week up to a maximum of 35 hours per week are required.
