American Educator is the quarterly professional magazine of the American Federation of Teachers. American Educator is charged with offering AFT's K-12 and higher education members a high-quality magazine that builds their professional knowledge and their awareness of AFT's unique perspective on educational issues. This mission demands carefully researched, in-depth articles. Therefore, the intern position is geared toward the crucial task of background research, as reflected in the duties listed below.

DUTIES

  • Conducting academic research (defined searches for things like key factors for summer school programs using several databases and skills like Boolean searching) and internet research (broad searches for everything from initiatives in particular states or districts to new reports from organizations such as RAND),

  • Developing a library database to keep track of the department’s books,
  • Finding web sites, reports, and other resources that authors recommend to complement their articles, and

  • Assisting as needed with production duties such as checking references and Web site URLs.
