RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as the General Manager for UTLA, responsible for implementing Union policy and programs under the direction of the UTLA President and Executive Officers.

Serves as a resource for Officers, Area Chairs, Board of Directors, and the House of Representatives.

Serves as the overall manager of UTLA Staff, including all management, bargaining and non-bargaining unit members.

Increases internal structural development and coordination within UTLA, including, but not limited to coordination, supervision, and evaluation of UTLA management staff responsible for specific operations or functions within UTLA.

Provides leadership and guidance in the development and execution of all aspects of UTLA programs.

In collaboration with the UTLA Treasurer, serves as a resource person in the development of the UTLA budget.

Monitors and assists in the management of all UTLA property.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the UTLA President, Executive Officers, and Board of Directors.

Serves as a member of the UTLA negotiating team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
A BA or BS degree.Must demonstrate knowledge of effective staff management, fiscal techniques and corresponding experience.Broad experience in local teacher union activity and staff experience in diverse areas, including: negotiations, health benefits issues, organizing, political campaigns, charter schools, and representation.Outstanding written and oral communications skills.Successful experience and demonstrated skill in organizing and coordination of complex group projects and activities.Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with members, leaders, staff, and District representatives.Broad understanding of critical issues facing public schools and the teaching profession in Los Angeles, California, and the nation.Computer literacySatisfactory completion of a twelve-month employment probationary period.
- Valid California driver's license.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
United Teachers Los Angeles is a merged local affiliated with the California Teacher Association, California Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers. UTLA represents 46,000 bargaining unit members in such diverse groups as nurses, psychologists, social workers, librarians and classroom teachers. Wages, hours and working conditions of unit members are covered in the collective bargaining agreement in effect between the Los Angeles Unified School District and UTLA.
Salary range is $115,000 to $126,000 per year plus an automobile allowance. Beginning salary is determined according to background and experience.
Fringe benefits include medical, dental, and vision care for staff member and eligible dependents; four weeks of paid vacation and twelve sick days per year. There is also an excellent retirement plan.
