RESPONSIBILITIES: The AFTPA staff representative will be responsible for serving, supporting and training local union leaders and members. His or her responsibilities will include but not be limited to attending local executive board and membership meetings, training union officers, participating in negotiations as required by the individual locals, assisting in contract enforcement and conducting grievance/arbitration hearings and other member-related activities.
A successful staff representative will stay informed about developments in education, school and labor law and Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations affecting union members. They will involve their locals in AFT, AFL-CIO and other broader union activities, promote political awareness and action, assist with raising political action funds for the Committee to Support Public Education and will attend state and national conventions and meetings as directed by the president.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Compensation and benefits are governed by a staff union contract.
