The California Federation of Teachers is seeking applicants for the position of Legislative Representative. This individual will have particular responsibility for legislation pertaining to K-12 education and early childhood programs, and to employees in these schools and centers.
The AFT in California currently represents school employees, certificated and classified, at every level of public and private education (pre-school and Head Start, K-12 public and private schools, public community colleges, private higher education, and the University of California).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work will entail proposing, drafting and monitoring legislation at every step of the process, working with CFT governance bodies and committees, and reporting to CFT leadership and membership on legislative activity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or higher, and will be asked to demonstrate:

Knowledge of California education, how it is organized, and the laws and regulations which govern it.

Understanding of the labor movement.

Superior oral and written communication skills.

Readiness to work weekends and long, often irregular hours.
All CFT professional employees must become members of the CFT staff union, CFTFRU.
