DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Texas AFT Professional Educators Group (PEG) is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Field Representative. This is an organizing position which works with other state and national staff representing Texas AFT and the 1.4 million-member American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

This is a full-time position for an organizer, recruiter and service representative for the Texas AFT-PEG project. Applicant will be expected to perform field organizing, membership recruitment, training, writing, designing publications and handling member grievances. In
addition, the Applicant will be responsible for providing regular progress reports, and following the guidelines of the AFT Organizing Model. This position will also serve as the Statewide Leader Coordinator and oversee the functions of the Statewide Leadership Network.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be self-directed;
• Experienced with union activities;
• Knowledgeable of public education;
• Knowledgeable of basic computer functions and database programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.);
• Demonstrate leadership activities;
• Demonstrate good communication and writing skills;
• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills;
• Reside in the State of Texas and have a valid Texas driver's license; and
• Must have own transportation.

SALARY: $45,350.00 the first year of probationary employment.
