Affiliate Relations Director, Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), Madison, Wisconsin

Manage WEAC’s Affiliate Relations programs, including Education Support Professionals, Wisconsin Technical College System, Student WEA, UniServ, and WEAC-Retired. Serve as State UniServ Manager. Assist UniServs and local association affiliates with organizing and organizational issues. Direct and supervise the Associate and Professional Staff assigned to the Affiliate Relations Department and State Option UniServs. Maintain contacts with, and represent WEAC to, the general public and external organizations. Serve as a member of the WEAC Management Team and Staff Liaison to the Affiliate Relations Committee. Reports to the WEAC Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage WEAC’s Affiliate Relations programs.
  • Assist UniServs and local association affiliates with organizational issues.
  • Advise the WEAC Executive Director and President on Affiliate Relations issues and, under their direction, manage Affiliate Relations’ functions.
  • Understand and implement NEA and UEP funding program.
  • Understand and implement UniServ Program.
  • Understand and implement NEA and WEAC UniServ Guidelines.
  • Understand and implement Local President Release Time program.
  • Serve as liaison to Affiliate Relations Committee.
  • Negotiate and administer agreements with outside organizations.
  • Assign, direct, and supervise the Associate and Professional Staff assigned to the Affiliate Relations Department, including employees of State Option UniServs.
  • Direct the Affiliate Relations department and perform related management functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Appropriate academic credentials (minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant field).
  • Knowledge of current WEAC programs and strategic objectives (e.g. WEAC’s Great Schools program).
  • Knowledge of organizational development concepts, facilitation, and principles of management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and other technologies.
  • Outstanding skills as a leader, an organizer, and manager.
  • An understanding of the operations of a labor union and a firm commitment to union values.  
  • Integrity, high ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • The ability to promote and adhere to WEAC Policies as adopted by the WEAC Board of Directors and Representative Assembly.
  • Commitment to public education as an institution.
  • Ability and desire to work in a team environment with other managers.
  • Capacity to maintain and enhance, where necessary, professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Demonstrated experience with organizing campaigns and collective bargaining process.
  • Ability and readiness to work long hours and occasional weekends.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
