DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the director and deputy director of affiliate services, the senior associate will focus on the development and deployment of organizing applications and databases, including database tools for union organizing campaigns and support for local union-building efforts.  The senior associate will assist in efforts to gather information on members, potential members and organizing targets.  In addition, the senior associate will coordinate between the Organizing and IT departments to provide necessary feedback on continuing database requirements and enhancements for end users database capacity as it relates to organizing. Responsibilities include:

  • Identify requirements for application development and develop custom AFT data management applications.
  • Oversee and coordinate efforts at list matching and data harvesting and uploading of information to the AFT central database.
  • Develop and deploy custom MS Access database applications and reporting.
  • Evaluate local technical capacities and requirements and make necessary recommendations.
  • Train lead organizers and staff on the use of AFT’s custom database tools and MS Access applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in database development, data acquisition and mining, database report writing, testing and deployment.
  • Experience converting and working with data from a variety of sources and formats.
  • Specific experience with MS Access applications development and report writing, installing and troubleshooting small area networks, and providing training on technology tools.
  • Basic understanding of how data is used in union organizing and building efforts.
  • A degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours and travel extensively.
  • Prior work experience in a union environment is preferred.
  • Training experience is considered a plus.
