The accounting department is responsible for processing of payroll, VP expenses, vendor checks, publications sales/subscriptions and per capita payments. Other responsibilities include production of the AFT budget and quarterly and annual financial statements. Membership duties include membership card processing, affiliate compliance assistance, membership, local officers and staff updates. The department is also responsible for online convention/meeting registration and credentials. Employee and nonemployee expenses, COPE reporting/check processing, annual audit and agency fee audit support for AFT and related entities are also a part of the accounting department.

Internship Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will receive hands-on experience with the wide-ranging activities within the department. Assist as needed with updating meeting registration/housing software documentation as well as accounting policies and procedures. Responsibilities also include assisting with gathering data and reports used with the current accounting software in preparation for conversion to new accounting system and responding to various department data requests. Other duties as assigned to assist the department.

Qualifications
Candidates should be working towards an accounting or business degree and have good written and verbal communication skills. Analytic and fact gathering skills are important. Experience with Internet research, accounting software and interest in finance issues are also desirable.

The AFT internship is a paid position. Salary is $10/hour for undergraduate students and $12/hour for graduate students.
